Lesley Gore just finished her lead vocal for "Ever Since". It is unbelievable. I can't help but choke up, the way she did it, her phrasing, her interpretation, the wisdom in her voice, the attachment to the lyric, the...everything. The unexplainableness. She's added dimensions that open the entire meaning of the song. When she sings "all the parties I've been to/ you were missed..." it's on a level I can only hope to achieve. She asked if she got to the heart of the lyric, and "if the composer was satisfied," and I practically collapsed on the couch.

This will be a beautiful record. I feel really fortunate to be a part of it, and to be able to turn around and share it with all of you.

Went to Lez Zeppelin last night- an all-female Zeppelin cover band. Sweet. "Page" had the doubleneck Gibson, the Chinese dragon pants, and "Plant" was busting her ass on the songs. I was worried that "Bonham" wouldn't be able to hang (who could?) but you know - she was strong. "Jones" knew everything cold. Bassists are always mentioned last, and all they do is everything right. A thankless job for inconsiderate shits like all of us.

Of course, there were obvious differences. Instead of a half-empty bottle of Jack rattling on top of "Page"'s Marshall stack, our girl opted for Amstel Light. Perfect.

Went to the Frames at Bowery Ballroom the other night with a group of fanatics. Really great. I got 'Burn The Maps' and am going back to get some others. The violinist is on maternity leave with his wife, which bummed out a few folks, but a guy was subbed in and played the parts on an eBow - I didn't know the originals, but the substitute really held it down. And they segued into "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which is the best way to get me to wet my pants. That one guitar lick - you probably know the one I'm talking about - just too good.
