Things you don't hear every day: "Chuck D. called and wants you on his show." So, July 22nd, Lesley Gore will be taping for a July 24th airing of Chuck D.'s "On The Real" show on Air America/XM.

July 25, 7pm: Full band performance, live on WFMU with host Glen Jones. This is a fantastic New York station (one of the few), and there is a Web stream so you can check it out in other cities.

And - holy cow - Aug. 19th the band will be going down to Philly to tape World Cafe with David Dye. That show will air later in the year. I can't wait.

This, from the Middle East TV network of Voice of America, which aired our Lesley Gore show. I haven't seen it, but heard it was fun, and that there are good shots of my guitar (a 1967 Gretsch Country Gentleman, for you guitar dorks out there). You'll need Real Player, and you'll need to follow the directions carefully, as the site is not in English. At all. Enjoy:

Mike- Here's something that might blow your mind. Go to www.voanews.com/persian then click on the link at the bottom called TV, then click on the last link on the right that says Next Chapter, and then click on the third file on the left side of the page.

When the video player opens up fast forward it to 13:30 and you will see the Lesley appearance which was a TV special aired on our Middle East Network.

Blake's show went great. It was so cathartic to play that loud and sweat that much. The Marshall 4 x 12 was warm and gorgeous, and Flying V was crushing, though in the heat, it got a little hard to tune. Ah, who fucking cares. Ellinghaus (drummer) gave me the ultimate compliment: "You remind me of the guitar version...of me." I'll keep that for a long time. The crowd was strong and supportive, and the puppet show beforehand performed a really funny version of Jean Paul Sartre's "No Exit." I mean...puppets. You know? Lesley Gore came up to sing "Better Angels" and just blew the room away. The NYC Women Firefighters came up on stage and got a huge round of applause from grateful New Yorkers.

Then we all got shitfaced.
