SPINAL TAP/LESLEY GORE CONNECTION
OK, so now I'm in heaven. People have been writing in, but this is the best piece of news I've heard. "Spinal Tap" is easily one of my favorite movies ever, and it turns out Derek Smalls, bassist for Tap, the "lukewarm water" of the outfit, claims that the first record he ever owned was "It's My Party".

A great challenge of the Lesley Gore project occurred last night: I burned an advance copy and gave it to my folks. I was interested, since they know her music very well, already. They chose to listen to it in the car, which has a pretty lame system, but I figured maybe that's good, because that's how most listeners experience music. It's democratic.
I was particularly anxious about their reaction to "Someday", which has been a staple of my own show for years. Hearing me sing it solo with that little slit drum, people begin to think that there's only one way to play it. Not for long.
Mom left a message. "'Someday' is just perfect. Really incredible. We love the mood of the whole record, as well, the whole thing..." etc. I'll spare you the rest, but I was glad about the reaction (and believe, they would have told me if they hated it). I feel like the record itself passed a test with people who were already fans. That's a big deal.

Halftime shows: pretty hilarious, generally, but THIS IS THE BEST ONE
